UK
1st of October 2008: a big day for the U.K.
Implementation of picture based warnings on tobacco products:
The UK is one of the first European countries to introduce graphic images on cigarette packets to warn about the dangers of smoking. They have started to be introduced on 1 October, but it will be another year before all packets contain them as existing stock will have to be sold. The images will replace the written warnings that started in 2003, although the messages "Smoking kills" and "Smoking seriously harms you and others around you" will continue to appear on the front of packets.
Other tobacco products will be expected to follow suit by 2010. more..
