Smoke-free legislation came into force in Wales as of 2 April 2007.

Smoke-free legislation came into effect in Northern Ireland on 30 April 2007.

The Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 came into force on 26 March 2006.

From 1 July 2007, virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England became smoke-free.

In May 2004 the Riksdag accepted the government bill on smoke-free eating and drinking establishments. This means that from 1 June 2005 all pubs, restaurants and cafés in Sweden are smoke-free.

Decree 2006-1386, dated 15 November 2006, outlines the technical aspects of the smoking ban in France: as of 1 February 2007 workplaces became smoke-free; on 1 January 2008 cafés, restaurants, bars, discos, nightclubs, casinos and hotels likewise became smoke-free.

Section 47 of the Public Health (Tobacco) (Amendment) Act 2004 came into force on 29 March 2004.

The Polish Law on the Protection of Public Health against the Effects of Tobacco Use was passed by the Polish Parliament on 9 November 1995.
